Condition
Ankle Sprains & Strains
Assessment and staged rehabilitation following an ankle sprain or strain, to rebuild strength and confidence.

Ankle sprains and strains are among the most common soft tissue injuries, ranging from a mild twist to a more significant ligament injury. Without appropriate rehabilitation, they can leave the ankle feeling unstable or vulnerable to repeat injury.
How home physiotherapy can help
Your HSR physiotherapist will assess the extent of your injury, your current movement and balance, and how it’s affecting your daily activity. From there, a staged rehabilitation programme is built — starting with managing swelling and restoring movement, then progressing to strength, balance and, where relevant, a return to sport or activity.
Practising balance and strength work in your own home environment, on your own stairs and floor surfaces, helps rehabilitation translate directly into everyday confidence.
What a session may include
- Assessment of swelling, movement, strength and balance
- Hands-on treatment where appropriate
- A staged exercise and balance-retraining programme
- Guidance on a safe return to walking, activity or sport
Ankle injuries related to sport are also covered from a wider perspective on our sports injuries page.
