Knee Pain

Assessment and treatment for knee pain, swelling or reduced movement, at any stage of recovery.

Knee pain can affect people of any age, whether it’s linked to injury, overuse, joint wear, or recovery from surgery. It often affects walking, stairs, and getting in and out of chairs — everyday movements that matter for independence.

How home physiotherapy can help

Your HSR physiotherapist will assess your knee’s movement, strength, stability and swelling, and ask how your symptoms affect your daily routine. From there, a personalised treatment and exercise plan is built to address your specific findings and goals, whether that’s returning to sport, managing a long-term joint condition, or recovering after surgery.

Practising exercises on your own stairs and furniture, in the environment you’ll actually be using day to day, often makes rehabilitation more relevant and easier to stick with.

What a session may include

  • Assessment of knee movement, strength and stability
  • Hands-on treatment where appropriate
  • A staged, progressive exercise and rehabilitation plan
  • Advice on activity levels, footwear and daily movement

If your knee pain follows surgery, our post-operative rehabilitation page has more detail. Ongoing joint pain may also be related to arthritis.
