Tennis Elbow

Assessment and treatment for the pain, tenderness and grip weakness associated with tennis elbow.

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylalgia) causes pain and tenderness around the outside of the elbow, often worsened by gripping, lifting or repetitive wrist movement. Despite the name, it affects far more than tennis players — it’s common after repetitive manual tasks, DIY, or computer use.

How home physiotherapy can help

Your HSR physiotherapist will assess your elbow, wrist and grip strength, and ask about the activities that seem to trigger or worsen your symptoms. Treatment is typically built around a progressive loading exercise programme, alongside hands-on techniques and practical advice on adapting activities while you recover.

A home visit lets your physiotherapist look at the specific tools, workstation or activities involved in daily life or work that may be contributing, and tailor advice accordingly.

What a session may include

  • Assessment of elbow, wrist and grip function
  • Hands-on treatment where appropriate
  • A progressive strengthening and loading programme
  • Advice on activity modification and gradual return to normal tasks

Tennis elbow related to sport or a specific activity is also covered more broadly on our sports injuries page.
